Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a school where many of my students come from families that are economically disadvantaged. Our school is considered high-poverty, and approximately 70% of our students receive free lunch.
I teach 19 students who come from so many different backgrounds, but who all have one thing in common: a desire to learn and play!
The students that come to me every day are silly, smart, and curious about the world around them! They take pride in everything they do, and there is nothing quite like experiencing the world through their eyes.
My Project
My students are currently using an old set of iPads and headphones during the literacy block. The headphones occasionally lose sound, only have sound in one ear, and have earpieces that are falling apart!
With these new headphones, my students will have noise-cancelling, durable listening tools designed to stand up to the wear and tear of small children.
They will use their new headphones during literacy centers to "listen to reading" and work with Raz-Kids, a literacy website and app where children can work on books at their own levels. I expect that adding these materials to my classroom will allow children the opportunity to have failsafe materials that will stand up to the trials of the classroom, as well as provide hours of limitless engagement with technology, without the distraction of what's going on in the classroom around us!
