First graders enter the classroom confident and ready. They have already completed kindergarten, so they are very excited and not as scared as they were entering school for the first time. My class is filled with happy students despite some not so great circumstances. Some students are coming from poverty in the U.S. or they are coming from other countries and they don't know the language. Whether they are learning English, starving, wearing the same clothes as the day before, or receiving extra support for their misunderstandings, they stay positive and confident. I can't wait to help them reach their goals. They are smart and competent little humans ready to share their love with the world.
My Project
My first grade students are very fidgety! These fidget resources will help keep them focused on the learning! We have just added stools to our classroom and these wobble seats will help students stay at their desks. The flexible bands for their chairs will give their feet something to do while their brains can learn! One student in particular needs to keep his hands busy, so the squishy caterpillar will be perfect to keep on his desk. In first grade we learn about ten frames and use them to introduce addition concepts. The big magnetic version will be great for whole group lessons as well as on a magnetic cookie sheet for independent or partner work! These materials will make a huge difference in my classroom this year and in years to come.
