The school year is under way! We have accomplished so much. I have the best group of first graders. It has been over 20 years since I have had the privilege to teach first grade and this class is amazing. They are a very diverse group of the most endearing children anyone could meet. They are so eager to learn and truly treat each other and the classroom with respect.
I want my students to have the opportunity to learn from some of the most engaging children's literature available.
I teach in an inner-city public elementary school, and my students are not always provided all of the wonderful learning resources that other schools have. I want to be able to provide this group of children with the top-notch literacy instruction that they deserve and an opportunity to be exposed to the best children's literature available.
My Project
Our classroom library needs titles that the children want to read.
These book titles will also help expand our guided reading selection for small group time and shared reading.
I want my students to be able to choose their books to read in class. I also want them to experience amazing read aloud books. This is so important, to allow children the choice of what to read at their level. My students' reading levels span from DRA instructional A to J, and our classroom library lacks enough variety of appropriate levels. Children need to read books at their level and their interest. Many of our books are outdated, old and just not fun to read. I want my students to develop a love of literacy at this crucial beginning stage in their education.
First graders need a place to store and organize their books. These bins will help them keep their belongings neat and safe.
The bags will provide the students a safe place to keep their independent books. They can travel with their bags to and from the rug. First graders love to receive reading awards. The ink will allow me to print awards and recognize all students.
