My students enter our first grade classroom everyday ready, full of life and excited to learn. We currently have twenty-six students. Many have a special military family background that has provided them opportunities to live and learn around the world. With these amazing opportunities, each student brings a lot of knowledge and excitement to share in our classroom daily. We are working to build a resilient classroom starting off with great students and amazing family support. I often say and feel I am the luckiest teacher in the whole world!
My Project
We are working hard to build a strong foundation for all first grade readers, and nothing gets a message across quiet like a good book! With the quality literature received from this grant my students will be introduced to developmentally appropriate stories and activities that are built around a strong phonemic awareness program. Phonemic Awareness is the ability to work with the sounds in words and is imperative to reading success. These books will be used in small groups, one on one and whole group settings throughout the year. A strong phonemic awareness foundation is necessary in building literacy skills and successful readers!
