My students are fun, loving, creative, and passionate. As an educator for social justice, we are constantly engaging in rigorous conversations about equity in the classroom and our greater community. In order to be equitable to my students, I need to create an environment that gives them what they need. School should be safe, comfortable, and accommodating. Our cheerful hugs and smiles are sitting fingers crossed that you will help us make our class feel like home.
My kids love to move and wiggle.
Their brains are always working, but of course, they need the proper seating to help them do their best work.
Teaching has always been my passion. Since I was 6, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Now, in my first year, I am teaching first grader while completing my master's degree in early childhood education through a program committed to social justice and activism. My commitment to urban education is life-long. I love what I do and I want to help my kids love school. They deserve it.
I want to make this classroom feel like a safe, controlled learning space for students and this means creating autonomy over their seating to help them be successful and comfortable.
Your donations will be used to help students access deep discussions about equity, social justice, and activism by allowing them to free their body from constraints and distractions.
The items we are specifically hoping for are wobble chairs and yoga ball seats. By adding these items to our classroom, students will no longer be confined to the use of traditional chairs in our classroom. Their sensory needs will be met, they will be able to keep their bodies moving while their brain is growing, and they will recognize that their teachers care for their needs and wants and actually follow through to make them a reality.
Our students cannot be expected to create actionable change if their classroom teachers are not doing working to create actionable change in their classroom. We want our kids to see that we value them. This means creating seating arrangements that help them focus and succeed.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
