First Year Teacher Making an Engaging 21st Century Learning Classroom!
My students need a document camera in order to have things modeled for them, a classroom mailbox to stay organized, and dry erase boards/clipboards to do hands-on activities to get the most out of their learning!
My students are hard working 3rd graders. We are a school of great diversity, which is a great opportunity for us to learn new things every single day. As is true in any school, there are students who sometimes need more motivation and inspiration in order to get what they need out of their education. Engaging methods and activities can help them to become more invested and excited about their learning.
Celebrating diversity is a huge focus in our school, which allows for students to be more understanding and to really be able to use their social and emotional learning.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a process where children and adults effectively apply knowledge, attitudes, and skills in order to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
My Project
Students need to see things modeled step-by-step in order to get the most out of activities that they complete in school. It also gives students a chance to share their writing, math, and ideas with the entire class. This will help them to develop and fine tune their presenting and public speaking skills, which are both essential skills to have in our world today. Having a document camera is a way to bring even more technology into our classroom and will be so beneficial for student learning.
Students learn best when they have materials that are engaging and that allow them to learn by actually 'doing'.
This is where the dry erase boards and clipboards come in. Students will be able to show their thinking and really work out every problem that they are posed with using the dry erase boards. They will also be essential in being able to assess students quickly to see who needs more practice, and who is really grasping the concept we are working on. The clipboards allow students to get out of their seats and work in small groups around the room- something that never seems to get old for third graders! The more excited students are about their classroom and materials, the more they will learn in the end. Both of these things will create a hands-on environment for every third grader that enters my classroom!
Students also need a literature organizer in order to keep themselves organized. Organization is a very important skill for all third graders to learn. This will teach them to take responsibility of their work that they produce in the classroom.
