Help me give my students supplies for the new school year with a first year teacher getting together things to make the classroom an ideal learning environment!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a free, independent, public charter school that specializes in education for urban youth, designated most at-risk for dropping out of school. A Title I school, with most of our families live near or below the poverty level. Most students come from female-headed households where the caregiver has not completed high school or attended college. Nearly 75% of students who enroll are 2-4 years below grade level in reading and math. When children start off disadvantaged, they are more likely to drop out of school because they fall so far behind.
Our school motto is "Accepting failure is NOT an option!" For 2017, our high school received an excellent score of 85.4% from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
We are preparing some of the city’s most disadvantaged children to have what every child deserves–a chance to achieve and successfully contribute to the community.
My Project
These are mostly items that will be used every single day that will make my classroom more efficient and effective for myself and my students! A well stocked and organized classroom can make a huge different in the day to day lives of everyone who uses that classroom. With these items I will be able to get organized, reduce clutter in the classroom, and be able to take full advantage of the space for an optimal learning environment! I will use these items daily which will make things flow more easily as I go through the school day. For example, the cell models will be a fun, hands-on way for students to see what a cell looks like up close. The science reading materials will provide extra learning for students who are ready to move on during a lesson while other students are still working. The cart of drawers is the most helpful way to organize papers by class, and also provide some storage for worksheets that students might need access to daily. Everything else will be helpful day to day as higher quality items will last longer after daily use, like the pencil sharpener and 3 hole punch! Having pencil baskets on each table will create a more efficient way for students to get pencils quickly without having to get out of their seat. Ultimately an organized classroom is a happy classroom.
