My Students

I am so excited to start my first year teaching first grade! I will have 18 wonderful first graders this year. My students are sweet, amazing and hilarious tiny humans who LOVE to read! Reading is such an important part of our day in first grade--whether that is independent, with partners, in small groups or read alouds.

Quality read alouds give students the opportunity to build their vocabulary, and are a great way to model reading strategies.

Read alouds are truly beneficial to a student’s natural progression in learning, and reading aloud to students shows them what a proficient reader looks and sounds like.

My Project

This year in first grade my goal is to create a classroom library that is filled with amazing books that show people from all walks of life, as well as books that can be used to teach reading strategies. The books I am requesting for my classroom are all high quality mentor texts that will help me to teach my students essential reading skills such as fluency, expression, inferencing, predicting, making connections, understanding point of view, and identifying theme or message.

These skills are vital to students' success in reading, both in the classroom and beyond.

The books I have chosen also teach important life skills such as perseverance, problem solving, being a good friend and most importantly having a growth mindset!
