First Year Teacher: Bringing Passion into Her Classroom
Help me give my students the opportunity to receive an equitable learning opportunity. Through visuals and classroom organization, I can provide my students with a more structured and immersive learning environment.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first year teacher and I am so excited for this opportunity to employ my passion towards helping individuals with Special Needs within my very own classroom.
My class consists of 8 wonderful students with Autism Spectrum Disorder who each have very different learning needs and interests.
We will learn all core academic subjects (math, ELA, social studies, and science) while following the NYS standards of learning and making individual learning accommodations as necessary. We will also participate in class wide social skills training and life-skills training.
My Project
After being a life-long advocate for my brother with Autism Spectrum Disorder and studying for four years to receive a degree in Special Education, it is now time to bring my passion and knowledge into my first teaching job! I will be teaching a group of 8 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder who all have a wide range of learning needs. This project would be helping to fund some materials to help get the year started, including visual schedules to help alleviate anxiety students may experience pertaining to the start of the school year, math manipulatives, and learning center organization tools.
