Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. I have twenty-seven students, all of Hispanic or Latino decent. Their learning and education is very important to their parents.
Many of them struggle in math and using their hands will make their learning a lot better.
Most of them do not have a parent who speaks English. They are bright, energetic and hard working. This is my first year at this school after their teacher left midyear and I want to make this a year they'll never forget.
My Project
I have taken over mid year for a wonderful group of 27 students. Their teacher moved away and some of them are having difficulty with the adjustment especially in math. These hands-on manipulatives will help expand their learning and make it easier for them by using their hands to make connections. Having a manipulative for each student will allow them all to have a hands-on learning experience without needing to share or take turns with a classmate.
The students will use the mailbox to keep all important papers to go home and will also be used for them to place homework and other papers I need returned.
Some of my students have a difficult time organizing their desks and areas. The mailbox is a way to organize my classroom and make the students accountable for all important information that needs to go home.
I have a vast library in my classroom. However, I currently have no where to place all my books. A bookcase would be a perfect place to have all of my books displayed for children to have easier access to what books are available to them.
