Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in an inner city that is home to a large Caribbean population. As a way to expose ourselves to the Caribbean culture and way to give back to a Caribbean community as well we want to bring our soccer program, First Touch Training, to more deserving young athletes. We have started a soccer program here for disadvantaged youth where sports programs and sports development are not as accessible to them.
Every student deserves equal access and opportunities in all areas and we have seen the potential that so many of these students have as athletes but they are not able to express or grow it to their fullest ability.
That's why we need your help! We want to continue to develop our soccer sports development program for inner city/disadvantaged youth and spread our love for the game of soccer as we believe it is a global sport that brings people together and allows us to learn and connect with one another in a fun and enriching way. Soccer, along with other sports, encourages social-emotional growth, along with teaching teamwork and other life skills.
My Project
In soccer your first touch is your most important! For many of the players we work with it may be their first time touching a soccer ball. First Touch Training helps young players build the foundational skills needed to develop as players through their first touch.
First Touch Training aims to provide kids with the opportunity and the ability to learn, improve and connect through the universal sport of soccer.
We, Tara and Steph, are not only coaches but educators in an inner city that is home to a large Caribbean population. As a way to expose ourselves to the Caribbean culture and way to give back to a Caribbean community, we want to bring our soccer program, First Touch Training, to even more deserving young athletes. We have started a soccer program here for youth where sports programs and sports development are limited/not as accessible to them and we are looking to expand our program by bringing it to young youth in Jamaica this summer through Volunteer HQ.
