This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an urban area with diverse backgrounds, so they are facing the challenge of learning English as well as maintaining their home language. This can be frustrating for anyone, so it is highly important that they are afforded a classroom environment that promotes their learning and well being.

They are enthusiastic, ambitious, and motivated learners.

I wish for each one of my students to have the opportunities that they so rightfully deserve in an environment that provides ample and worthwhile learning experiences.

My Project

I want my students to experience the process of creating stories using various writing and art materials. They will use paper, pencils, crayons, glue sticks and scissors to create stories. A story is not just done with the written word, but also with vivid and creative illustrations. Their work will be laminated with a laminator, so that it is protected and preserved for years to come. I will also provide backpacks for my students to place the materials in order for them to work on stories at home with their families. It is important to give students the opportunity to create and write in order for them to become confident and independent learners at school and at home.

Children learn best when projects and activities are student led, and not just teacher directed.

Their stories will be transferred to the computer for their peers and families to see, read and appreciate. I want them to have ownership of their stories both on paper and digitally. Our youth are the creative, intellectual and innovative digital natives of this world.
