My students need a student microscope, fossil kits, thermometers, compasses, a volcano kit, and prepared slides to help them experience hands-on ways to explore the world!
I teach a 1st grade and 2nd grade multi-age classroom at an urban school district in Washington. Many students at our school come from low socio-economic backgrounds and need all of the resources they can get at school!
Science has become a subject that has been pushed to the back-burner for many teachers because of the emphasis on teaching literacy and math.
This upcoming school year, I want to bring many new science materials into the classroom that will strike student's curiosity to learn more about the world around them.
My Project
In this project, I have requested a student microscope with prepared slides that will align perfectly with the organisms science unit that we will be learning this fall. There are other solar system resources in the project which lends itself to the solar system theme of our class. Young children become so fascinated with space and the planets in our solar system. To be able to study science with hands-on materials will be much more engaging and a great learning tool for many students.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about this important project.
Please help me to educate young first and second graders to become future scientists! Thank you for your help!
