Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn and meet all high expectations. Some students come before school, during lunch and after school to engage themselves in our technology club. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day, with smiles on their faces, no less.
My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners.
Most come from a low income household and have limited resources and experiences. To many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities are at school. They love school and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!
My Project
We currently have a M-TECH club that specializes in all things technology. The club meets before and after school. Club members have put together a team of interested students to participate in a Robotics team. With Lego Mindstorms, students can design, build and code as a team to accomplish challenges in competition. This would be Mission Middle School's first robotics team and they are up for the challenge.
Lego Mindstorms will promote growth in design, engineering, coding, and working as a team.
The team also is in need of books on the subject of robotics to give them an in-depth knowledge on what they can expect and accomplish. With these materials and the drive of the team members I can attest that they will be a competitive team.
We were inspired by the "First Lego for Newbies" project by Ms. Bilello. We are new to Robotics and Lego Mindstorms, so this would be the perfect fit for us to start a team. We can see from this project that having instructional resources is a benefit to helping a newly formed team be successful.
With your donation, you are helping students to achieve abilities that extend far beyond the classroom. Without projects such as these, students would not be given the opportunity explore robotics. These students are our future engineers which is why your donation will help foster and continue their excitement in robotics.
