My students need the wobble chairs to help remain focused as their bodies keep moving with learning. The storage rack will help keep their supplies and books handy to optimize academic rigor.
My first graders eagerly explore books and the world around them with genuine curiosity and are constantly learning.
With limited exposure to books, computers/internet, and limited English students enter the classroom energetically smiling and ready to learn despite any challenges they may face.
More than half are one to two grade levels behind the standards for first grade at the beginning of the school year, but they have tremendous potential for growth.
My students depend on me for structure and security. In time students develop the awesomeness, resilience, and grit needed to make major progress in first grade. Our classroom "family" thrives with our passion for learning.
My Project
My students are young and they are often wiggle throughout the lesson, disturbing instruction. Being able to wobble in their seats teaches them to self regulate their needs. Having the wobble chairs gives them ownership of and choices in our learning.
Having the cart will allow me to move books and manipulatives to where the students have chosen to learn.
Having a flexible seating classroom means I have to be able to meet the students where they are and manage the traffic flow in the classroom. Having a cart to easily move things around will make it much easier to meet my student's needs in this environment.
When this project is fully implemented we will see students embracing more opportunities to learn how they choose and having their needs met at the same time.
