Imagine going to a restaurant with a menu that offers only one choice. One. This would appeal to only a small group. Similarly, my students do not receive as much individualized assessment and instruction as I would like to offer.
My students need 8 laptops to take formative assessments and use individualized web based educational programs. The laptops would exponentially improve differentiated instruction.
My students love to learn.
They come from a variety of backgrounds and, in some cases, from a variety of countries. Each student has different needs and learning styles, and they are at different levels of learning in the subjects I teach. They are in a school which has experienced budget cuts and growing class sizes but their attitudes are great. They work well together and are collaborative and helpful to one another. I hope to receive funding so I can provide the individual attention each one of them deserves.
My Project
Using the laptops, the students will first be able to take formative assessments. Our current computers for this are extremely slow and often shut down unexpectedly thus requiring the student to retake the assessment. The new laptops will reduce frustration and allow students to really show their progress.
The computers will also provide feedback which will enable me to differentiate instruction. I will be able to assess more often with 8 laptops, enabling me to adjust my individualized attention and plan for each student quickly and frequently based on their progress. The laptops will also allow my students to use educational web based programs that I can tailor for each of them based on the assessments.
These programs will allow students to learn subject matter rapidly. They will enable them to comprehend complex mathematical and science concepts independently and proficiently. In addition, working on the laptops will allow students to become more comfortable with technology.

Up-to-date reliable technology that will allow larger groups of students to be assessed and work on individual academic goals will create an incredible classroom environment.
