Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Wipe-erase markers are a true essential in the classroom! They make daily, differentiated practice a breeze and they provide a no-fuss way for kids to fix mistakes as they go.
I teach in a high-poverty, urban public school where 95% of the students receive free and reduced lunch.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and some are here with their families as refugees. They are full of energy and spunk and as the year progresses they are learning to put that energy towards their learning.
My Project
This year-supply of wipe-erase markers would make a big difference in our classroom! My class received awesome wipe/erase lap boards from our last donor's choose project and I purchased a large amount of expo markers at the beginning of the year to go with them. My students use these materials in a variety of ways all day-- an instructional strategy I use called "interactive writing" helps students write along with me so they can learn proper spelling, conventions, and letter formation. We do math practice using the slates as well-- it's great to be able to give them problems to solve in the moment based on what they need practice with. Unfortunately, the school does not provide wipe/erase markers for students and so I've had to re-supply them at a frantic pace. I'm also asking for a year's supply of sheet protectors. These clear plastic sheets turn any paper into an opportunity for practice with wipe/erase markers.
Wipe/erase markers are a basic, essential, learning tool that the kids love to use!
In addition to that satisfying, inky squish, I think kids appreciate how easy it is to fix and learn from their mistakes when they use wipe/erase markers. Please help my students continue to happily learn from their mistakes by helping me provide a year supply of expo markers!
