My students need a listening center for struggling readers to use during reading workstations; this will help all readers to become fluent confident readers.
Help!! I have a group of first grade readers who devour nonfiction books. However, many are struggling readers who are unable to read about everything they want to read about. They want to learn about sharks, snakes, airplanes, and the solar system. Help us to learn about the world around us.
I have a great group of first graders who can not learn enough.
They spend their spare time looking for parts of nonfiction books. My students have few material items in their private lives. Therefore, they are excited with everything that comes in the classroom that helps make learning fun. They love to learn. I can not seem to fill their hunger to learn. We are a title one school located in rural Tennessee with a very high population of free and reduced lunch students. They want to learn about animals, science, and history.
My Project
My students need to hear fluent reading in order to become better readers. They enjoy reading nonfiction books, and learning about animals. A listening workstation will help them to hear a fluent reader while reading independently about items of interest. I would use a listening center with all levels of readers. My low readers could use the center to help them keep pace with the rest of the class in science and social studies. My high readers could use the listening center to expand their vocabulary and challenge them to learn more about those items that catch their attention.
A listening center will make a difference in my student's lives because it will help them to see the world.
They will be able explore subjects and areas that they thought impossible.
