Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's easy to get excited about reading at a library or bookstore because there are so many various books from which to choose. At a library or bookstore, you're able to find books on various topics, genres, and levels. I want my students to experience that same excitement in our classroom library.
My students attend a Title 1 school in an urban area.
They are amazing first-graders who are eager to learn! They have started the school year at different reading levels and are interested in reading about so many different things. Their favorite part of the school day is when they listen to me read a book to them.
My Project
I currently have a small leveled library in my classroom. There are very few books that students can choose from. Increasing the amount and variety of leveled books in my classroom library can help encourage and motivate my students to read. When browsing through our library, I want my students to be excited about the books they find and have access to high-interest and engaging books.
High-interest, leveled books are key to the reading development of these young readers.
I want my students' love for reading to grow throughout the year. This will be difficult to do without access to a leveled library with books filled with a variety of topics, genres, and levels.
