First Graders are enthusiastic learners, working hard to make both academic and social gains! It is a privilege to shape their inquisitive minds and help them create lasting relationships with their peers. 47% of F. Elementary School students qualify for Free or Reduced-price lunch. Many of our students have significant social-emotional learning needs. We have an Autism Spectrum Disorder center program at our school. Both of our Autism center classrooms are directly across the hall from our First Grade classrooms.
We look forward to creating an inclusive classroom environment for every child, every day!
Our friends with Autism need to feel safe and welcome coming into our classroom to join their peers. First Graders have wiggles, and we can't wait to rethink what our classroom looks like to meet the needs of the kids in our class, and those who will be pushing in for inclusion time!
My Project
We are working to create a more inclusive classroom environment to meet the needs of our First Graders and their friends in our Autism Center Program! We are hoping to purchase 4 Wobble Chairs/Stools to provide flexible seating options for our kids. Flexible seating is becoming more and more prevalent in office spaces today for adults. Many employers offer their staff choices in desks and seating and they are seeing an increase in work productivity and happiness. Don't First Graders deserve the same?
Flexible seating provides students with choice, sensory input, comfort, a sense of community, and contributes to better physical health and academic engagement.
We look forward to trying out Wobble Chairs next year as we rethink the look and feel of our classroom!
