Help me give my students decodeable books that look like every other book in our classroom library. Students needing extra practice will now be able to enjoy great literature while strengthening their decoding skills, too!
My 23 first grade students are growing and learning in the same small community in which I grew up, the place that inspired me to learn, think creatively, and become a teacher! The place I learned to read and love books! This group of students loves to find answers to questions about the world around them. They love books and absolutely love to read!
Many of my students however, struggle to read leveled readers and trade books.
They need more practice with decodable text that is interesting, fun, and looks like the books that other students are able to read with ease. These students have a strong desire to read, but become easily frustrated when the reading code seems beyond their reach.
Beautifully written and illustrated decodeable books will help my students become the best readers possible, and help them gain the skills and confidence to read any book they choose!
My Project
These materials will help bring beautiful well written books to my students, so that they can have additional time with specific phonics skills while reading a truly great book. Many times decodeable readers are dry and lack any type of real story, and students are not motivated to read them and get the practice they desperately need. Not these decodeable readers!
These books will not dissapoint even my most timid readers!
My first graders will build reading skills, confidence in word decoding, and a great love of literature with books targeted to exactly what they can read! This will help them feel and look like every other reader in the classroom.
