First Graders in the Quest for a LeapFrog Tag Reader Library

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Reading is not only a precious gift but also a necessary skill. Practice is essential! But how to develop the love for reading without the needed support at home? What if the parents are just too busy working long hours or they have the will but they lack the English skills to help their children?
I teach 24 eager first graders, in a Title I school.
Most of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are learning English as a second language and live in a high poverty area. One parent families, children being raised by grandparents, and parents working late hours are some of the difficulties facing our students. However challenged, our students are extremely motivated to learn and have wonderful parents who want the best for them. They need as many literacy opportunities as possible and the Leapfrog Tag Readers can give them extra practice as they are interactive and don't require the use of a computer. Most of my students don't have a computer at home and just a few have Internet access. My students love to listen to stories and to read along with the stories themselves. The Tag School Reader is an interactive reading system that brings books to life. They are the "Buddies" my students need to enjoy their reading and improve their pronunciation.
My Project
The Leapfrog Tag Readers and books are portable, do not require student computers, and are easy to use outside the classroom, making them especially suitable for after school and home-school connection programs. The engaging, interactive approach keeps students interested as they work to develop early literacy and comprehension skills. That's one of the reasons why I believe the Tag Readers are ideal to build a small listening center in my classroom and can be checked out by the parents during the weekend or at night to work with my struggling readers. The readers will also serve as a Home-School Connection and will enable the parents help their kids to acquire those essential skills. At that early age, my students have an urgent need for home reinforcement and the practice they will gain will develop the literacy skills required in first grade.
Please help my first graders develop their love for reading.
The Leapfrog tag readers will provide my students the opportunity to listen to stories, improve their reading skills, improve pronunciation, intonation, and practice their listening comprehension. The Leapfrog Tag Readers can also be integrated to a program to improve handwriting and learn how to draw. Some of the books available can even develop basic math skills.
