This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at an at risk, Title I school where many students do not have access to technology. We're trying to prepare our students for the 21st-century but lack some of the basic technology pieces to make that happen. I would like to introduce iPads into my classroom to give many of my kids that chance
My elementary school is 85% free and reduced lunch students.
Many of the students in our classrooms do not have access to technology in their home settings because of high poverty rates. By introducing technology in my first grade classroom, it will keep students on track and give them a glance of what they can accomplish with technology. A lot of people underestimate what first-graders can do with technology, I've seen firsthand what one iPad in a classroom can do. That's why am asking for 5 more and eventually hope to achieve a 1:1 device ratio.
My Project
Having iPads in my classroom will give students access to state-of-the-art educational applications, as well as access to online books. There is an abundance of apps and programs in the iTunes App Store designed to complement reading, writing, fluency, Math, and spelling. Most of these programs are interactive and get the students involved in their own learning process. If students take ownership of their own learning through the use of technology, we are building lifelong learners. I currently have one personal iPad that I use in my classroom, and we are using it to do wonderful things such as creating home videos, documentaries, Data collection, and record keeping. Students are anxious to get their hands on the iPad but with only one in a classroom of 20 students access is very limited. The use of this technology will help us implement common core into our classroom.
Having access to technology at an early age, sets the stage for future growth and success and builds lifelong learners.
They become confident with the use of technology and see it as a tool for their growth and not a frustration. A positive experience with technology will help develop a growth mindset in students and teach them that they can be successful at even a young age.
