Help me give my students a) crayon containers so they don't use bags that they'll throw away each time they break, b) earth-friendly cleaning supplies that create less trash, and c) materials to make glue sponges--not glue sticks!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
Perhaps, more than ever, our children need to be purposefully and intentionally connected to the earth, taught the interconnectedness of everything in the world so that we can ensure we have a healthy planet on which we can all thrive.
My students are incredible, thoughtful children who want to do whatever they can to help make the world a better place. Through my classroom, I hope to help encourage green practices among students - by reducing waste within the classroom and putting our words into daily practice!
My Project
Schools are great waste-producers - the yearly supplies, the paper, the cleaning materials that teachers and parents supply . . . If we can help our classroom to become a little greener, we want to do everything possible to do so.
This year my students learned about the interconnectedness of the world - that everything we do affects the world around us.
They learned about how we need to reduce the amount of single-use plastics in our world as well as trash in general.
Two big things WE can do on a daily basis to decrease both our waste output and the use of plastics in the classroom are 1) eliminate the use of antibacterial wipes to clean our tables and 2) eliminate the use of glue sticks . . . To do so, we need to have a 'greener' replacement. We will create glue sponges to replace the glue sticks and use earth-friendly cleaning supplies to clean our tables, accomplishing a big step toward our goal of becoming a more earth-friendly classroom. We can also reduce our single-use plastic usage/waste by storing our crayons in metal boxes rather than plastic bags which break often and are thrown away.
We are SO excited to have a positive impact on the world around us. Help our classroom GO GREEN!
