I have a class of 18 enthusiastic and diverse learners. My students are curious, active, and interested in the world around them! Each comes to school with different experiences, challenges, talents, personalities, and support. Even so, we create a class community that celebrates kindness, success, and perseverance.
My students are happiest and most engaged with hands on activities and when given opportunities to move around the room.
One of their favorite projects was the "text features surgery" they performed (while dressed like surgeons!) on some well used classroom magazines. My students embrace our student-centered learning environment which includes class meetings, brainstorming, sharing, and problem solving together.
My Project
All of us learn differently and we learn best when we are comfortable. My scholars are no exception and currently their choices are limited to desks, the floor with a few clip boards, and 3 scoop chairs. Still, they are ecstatic when given the choice of where to work. Excited learners are tomorrow’s world changers!
Flexible seating creates an authentic and positive learning environment.
When learners are comfortable, they can relax. When they can relax, they can focus. The freedom to move around and choose their most productive spot gives them ownership in their learning. It’s a win-win.
The products I have chosen will transform our classroom as students can learn to make meaningful choices in where they do their work. The balance balls and the wobble stools allow safe movement while working that traditional desk chairs do not. The movement allowed in flexible seating is proven to increase focus and engagement. The wobble cushions allow comfortable floor seating as a productive option, too. Adding seating options motivates students to find at least one or two good choices that work best for them and gives them the space and ease to dive into their work. I’m excited to see how my students grow in their learning this year with the help of flexible seating!
