This school year has been like no other. Not only are we learning remotely, but I am teaching first grade for the first time ever. My school is approximately sixty-five percent Title I. Over half of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. We have a diverse group of students, including African American, Asian, and Hispanic students. My students come with a variety of needs and reading levels.
These children come to school each day, whether in person or remotely, ready to learn and with smiles on their faces.
They are excited to read and love having the chance to choose books in our classroom library. They love learning and I love being their teacher.
My Project
My first graders have been doing a great job learning virtually. They come to class everyday and work hard during our meets all day. We have missed out on a lot of fun things that are a part of a first grader's life in the classroom. One thing I want to continue is to create a gift for parents this year. I am so thankful for their help and support this year and want to help my students give them something special. I want to help my students create a gift for their families, without having to provide the materials.
Giving my students the opportunity to create these ornaments will allow us to have some normalcy in this crazy year.
We will take a day and I will show students virtually how to make a couple of different designs and then they will create their own ornaments at home. This will not only help my students with their listening skills but their families will have something to hang on their tree.
