Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
First grade is the foundation of all that is yet to come in a child's life! With the right tools and guidance, the possibilities are endless!
Many of my students come from families who are struggling financially and have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.
Because of this, my school is a Title 1 school and most of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. In addition, these children are trying to assimilate to the American culture and struggling to learn the English language, more often than not, without parental support.
My Project
My students love visiting the listening center! They enjoy listening to various types of books, talking about them, and writing about them. Unfortunately, many of the current books are no longer available on tape. A CD player would expose my students to many more wonderful books.
Our classroom white boards are about ten years old, and they were cut from a shower panel. By now they are old and stained. The white boards are a good way for all the children to practice math and language skills and easy for me, the teacher, to locate children who are struggling. It would be so good to have new clean ones!
