My students are bright, creative, and eager to learn. First grade is one of the most influential years in a students' educational journey, and I am so excited to see them through it.
What makes my school special is that all students, regardless of whether or not they have a disability, learn together.
This is also what makes my job difficult, due to the sheer level of differentiation of instruction.
Many students in my classroom have behavioral and emotional disabilities; they have experienced trauma that oftentimes inhibits their ability to learn in school. My job is to make sure these students have the tools they need to be successful.
Learning to tell time and count money are one of many important concepts students in first and second grade are required to master. In order to do this while meeting the needs of all learners, it is important we have access to materials like clocks and coins. This way, students can use these frequently while they practice within the classroom setting.
Students also need access to books that help meet their diverse social emotional needs.
These books celebrate individuality, empathy, and self-care; all important concepts students should be able to learn within the classroom.
Finally, our classroom needs access to laminating sheets, cardstock, and ink. These will allow me to create multiple reusable stations in color for students to utilize.
