My students need basic school supplies including pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, and notebooks so they can have school experiences that they will help them learn and grow.
The students in my class come from a very low socioeconomic area. The majority of my students are of Hispanic or Native American decent and all of my students come from a variety of backgrounds and upbringings.
For many students, school is a refuge where they feel safe and have consistency in their day.
Our school does a great job of providing our diverse population of students with a wonderful place to learn, grow, and become upstanding citizens of the world.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I am not coming into the classroom with many supplies for my students. They are not required to bring their own supplies either being from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
The supplies donated toward this project will be used daily throughout the whole year for learning activities, projects, and assignments that will help them develop into first grade scholars.
We will use the notebooks as writing journals so each student comes out of first grade believing that they are writers. We will use the art supplies (crayons, markers, highlighters, pencils, and erasers) for literacy, math, and art activities. We will use the dry erase markers and erasers daily as we study letters and sounds.
