Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in a lower socioeconomic part of Nevada. I currently have 22 students, two who are severely learning disabled and one who requires some assistance from our special education resource room teacher.
Rocks and their properties are part of the first grade curriculum in our district. The problem is, we do not have any rocks to study. This makes completing a unit of study on rocks a bit difficult, as you can imagine.
To complete our unit, we are hoping that our students will be provided with rocks to study, magnifiers to view them with, and books to learn all they can about these rocks.
Sitting in class today, there could be a child, or even children, so sparked by their interest in rocks that they pursue it further and become a geologist, a paleontologist, or possible choose a career that has not even been invented yet!
