My students need basic school supplies pencils, copy paper, construction paper, markers and glue sticks so their creativity can grow as they grow as learners.
Our 2018-2019 school year has begun. We started our first two weeks in extreme heat and with students who came excited to learn. The first grade teachers are looking forward to a rigorous curriculum with all the materials our students need.
The first grade students enthusiasm is infectious and our first grade team desperately want our students to get the true first grade experience.
We have 5 first grades including one integrated class and one English as a second language classroom. We teach in a Title 1 school which means a majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Many of our students come from poverty level homes and some students are homeless. The basic materials we are ordering will give them a chance to use supplies that they can’t get at home as well as release their creativity. They will be able to write and illustrate their own books with the paper and pencils and staple their own books independently. Books that they can take home and share with parents or caregivers. The goal is to get the students excited about learning and share that excitement with family. We feel it is really important for the families to show enthusiasm and interest in the students work. The highlighters will be used to find important information in take home books as well as highlighting the important details in a word problem. The craft sticks will be used to write high frequency words for the students to practice. Students love to be creative it’s amazing what they can make with construction paper and glue.
