My students need art supplies such as multicultural face cut outs, rhinestones, hot glue gun, and glue sticks to participate in a beginning of year activity. They need a laminator with sheets and iPad charging station.
We are an integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) first-grade class, with a mixture of general and special education students at a high-needs, Title I school in the Bronx. While the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental involvement, they are enthusiastic and come to school every day ready to learn. They see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and love to make me proud.
My first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with; they inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.
My Project
Learning is meaningful to students when they are able to create and make connections. I am requesting the art supplies- multicultural face cutouts, cordless glue gun, and glue sticks so that students can create self portraits of themselves to hang on the wall during a lesson on community and diversity. The picture frames will be used to frame their portraits, and students will use the rhinestones to decorate their frame as a display of their unique individuality. I want to have a visual reminder for them that each one of them makes up an important part of our classroom community!
A main benefit of a small air purifier is that it would cut down on dust.
The school building produces and traps a great deal of dust, which leads to increased student and staff illness, as well as damaging computer and other equipment. The air purifier would also cut down on allergens.
Our class has 4 iPads to use for supplemental instruction. We are in need of a charging station that will charge all four of the iPads at the same time. A charging station would also help to keep the iPads organized and taken care of for many years of use.
By having a laminator on site, my students and I have the opportunity to preserve prepared materials and created work to ensure that our students are free to touch and explore and manipulate our materials to safely use them to learn. These young little students haven't mastered the appropriate behaviors of respecting other people's property yet, or simply get so excited that the forget to use their most careful hands when using books, and other easily ripped materials. Book baggies will be used daily to store books for independent reading.
