Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first year teacher at a priority school in SW DC. Our school has been labeled as a "40-40" school meaning that we are among the lowest performing schools in DCPS. One hundred percent of our kiddos receive free and reduced lunch. Our school population also has a high number of special education students. In my room, I have a variety of learners, including students with ADHD, speech impediments, learning disorders and emotional disturbance.

We don't receive supplies from parents or the school, so we are trying to fill the gap with help from donors!

With your help, we can create a loving, warm learning environment for my first graders where they have access to all the materials they need to learn!

My Project

We aren't provided with hand soap for our classrooms and the bathrooms are often out. With so many first graders, we need to keep ourselves clean so we stay healthy!

All of our tables and spaces are shared, which means we also have lots of germs to share!

The clorox wipes will be used to wipe down our tables, tablets etc. weekly to kill germs that are being spread. They will also be useful to help clean up the spills or messes that we make!

The first step in learning is making sure we are healthy enough to come to school! Please help us fill this basic need.
