We are devoted 1st Grade Special Education teachers in a NYCDOE Elementary School, located in the growing and evolving neighborhood of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Here is where each student is celebrated for their unique abilities and talents. As an International Baccalaureate School, we strive to foster cultural awareness, tolerance and global thinking.
Our students come from varying cultures and family dynamics and each bring diverse interests, learning styles and needs.
As teachers in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom, it is imperative for each child to feel successful and supported both academically and socially/emotionally. Our first graders love learning both inside and outside of the classroom. They enjoy engaging, hands-on collaborative activities. They especially enjoy tapping into the arts via dance, music, art and theater enrichment. You will often find my students enjoying movement breaks, engaging in hands-on activities on the classroom carpet and moving throughout the room in pairs and groups.
My Project
Rarely will you see our first graders seated at their desks. Throughout most of the day, you can find them on the carpet, collaborating at centers throughout the room, and working in the hallway. Our students need options other than rigid desks and chairs. The comfy floor seats will provide students with a comfortable and flexible option during instructional time, specifically during small group work.
The Bouncy Bands will be beneficial for our students who like to move.
The bands will help to provide a sensory outlet to help students stay focused and on task.
In addition to flexible seating items, our students would greatly benefit from strong, durable bags to hold their independent reading books. Lastly, individual dry erase boards will be of great assistance when students are utilizing the dry erase boards across subject areas.
