Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first-grade teacher at a very special Title I school. It is a public school that is a partial magnet which means we serve the neighborhood population as well as students interested in learning in a Spanish immersion environment. I teach 40 amazing, challenging, intelligent, deserving students who come from diverse backgrounds.
Our school community truly comes together to support the development of the whole child.
We believe each child has enormous potential and deserves the world. We promote diversity, inclusion, curiosity, and acceptance. Our curriculum is rigorous, but the students are up to the challenge and set high goals for themselves. The pride they take in their successes is amazing to see.
My Project
Our new curriculum is awesome and allows for lab time each day. It is amazing that we are able to prioritize play and it's importance in the educational life of first graders.
During lab time students rotate through stations where they are creators, engineers, researchers, and explorers.
We are requesting legos and magnetic tiles to help facilitate our engineer lab so that students can build and learn from their trials and errors. This lab time also facilitates amazing socio-emotional skills as students learn to cooperate with kindness and learn from one another.
I am so excited to hopefully be able to see the amazing creations that my engineer students build using these resources of legos and magnetic building tiles.
