My Students

I am moving from 5th grade to 1st grade Inclusion classroom with a full range of abilities. I "loop" with the same group of children and teach them for two years. My classroom is a culturally diverse community of learners. The students attend a Pre-Kindergarten to 8th-grade urban public school in the second largest urban district in the state. My students are like sponges for knowledge. Despite any extraordinary circumstances they have faced or are facing, they attend school regularly and are passionate about learning.

My Project

I am requesting these materials to create a “book nook” area in my 1st grade classroom. I’m encouraging students to truly enjoy reading and what better way to do that then in a comfortable area! This reading area makes the students feel comfortable and cozy, yet allows for them to be monitored safely by teachers and staff. I’m a firm believe in establishing a love for reading at a very early age. In first grade, students are just unlocking their skills as readers. This is the perfect way to set the stage for life-long reading habits and helps to foster a love for reading.
