My Students
In Chattanooga, Tennessee, there has been a drastic increase in the Hispanic population over the past 10 years, particularly minors from Central America and Mexico. Our school now serves an urban population made up of approximately 30% of Hispanic students that are English Language Learners. These students have recently moved to the United States and usually have never studied English before.
Language can change someone's life forever.
Language can be a gateway to endless opportunity for many people. For adolescents in rural areas of Mexico and Central American countries, opportunity is why they have left their beloved and beautiful countries and have come to the United States.
My job is to equip students with English skills that will open doors of opportunity in the United States for them in the future. It is my privilege to serve some of the most hard-working and diligent students that I have ever met. As many know and have come to find out, learning another language is not an easy task to master.
My Project
A special group of ESOL seniors will be graduating this year after diligently working for four years to obtain their high school diploma. These students entered high school in the United States with little-to-no English background!
On March 19th, these senior students will visit Washington, DC to experience the nation's capital and understand more about its rich history.
The trip will be a reward for hard working students who have fought to finish their education and be some of the first high school graduates of their families! We want to celebrate these students who have worked so diligently and have not quit- even when the odds were against them!
We need a hotel for our students to stay in while we visit the capital. Please join us in helping send them to DC by contributing to the cost of their hotel while we are there!!
