First Common Core Unit!
My students need two sets of books for a unit on characters with character, "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!" and "Joan of Arc". This unit will kick off our first year using the common core - and I want to do it right!
At Central Preston Middle School, we are going through a lot of changes - all while waiting for school to be built. We are currently a part of the high school (using their bottom floor of classrooms). I want my first year teaching the common core to be a success, and I need the right materials!
I teach 7th grade Language Arts.
The students are all from a very small town and mostly eager to learn! They are very caring and polite individuals who thrive on community involvement. I will teach 4 classes of approximately 20 students - so about 80 in total.
These resources are crucial for the success of my students. In order to implement the common core standards and present interesting lessons, I need a couple of book sets. I currently have just a literature book to consult, and let's just say the contents aren't the greatest. It is safe to say that I teach in a low-income area, and the struggle for funding and resources is never-ending. These books might not seem like a big deal to most, but they will help to create a memorable lesson for my students. I want them to dive head first with me into the world of the common core, and come out smiling.
This project will be my first of many common core units.
It will start off the year by teaching students everything they need to know about character. All off my other units will work with the information from this one. I want to start with something memorable - not just for my students, but for my first unit using common core standards.
