Mrs. Hubbard from Little Rock AR is requesting art supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a way to experience true Art! They need paint, sketchbooks, canvas, markers, and pencil sharpeners.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are from an impoverished community. Rarely do they have anything at home that allows them to express themselves artistically. Many beg to take free draw paper home just to have something similar to coloring books. Next year, we will have our first Art Club. The goal of this club is not only to instill creative problem-solving skills but to understand the importance of involvement and beautification of their community. Their skills will help them become leaders in their school and community as they develop into young adults. They are so excited and proud to be part of a new Art Club. These supplies will give them the ability to create works of art with tools they have never had the chance to use and will set better expectations for future goals.
These supplies will enable my students to experience what art is truly all about. Painting on canvases, sculpting with the clay and learning to create works using various tools, will awaken their creativity and allow them to learn about artists who have used these tools and supplies to create famous works in history and other cultures. Examples: Studying abstract expressionists then allowing them to create their own abstract works using the paints and canvases will develop free-thinking. The sketchbooks will be used for independent and collaborative project-based brainstorming. These skills will aid their growth in understanding art, as well as, problem-solve in other areas such as math, science, language, and history. This is the first art club for our school! We hope to make this a cornerstone to building innovative thinkers and future art enthusiasts!
