Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a rural public school on the Big Island of Hawaii that was formally a sugar plantation town. My students are very eager to learn and I would like to bring different materials to the classroom to make learning hands-on and fun.
In our Health Pathway class, we cover a large range of topics, from career exploration to PPE, Vital signs, Anatomy, and wound care.
I would like to create a lesson on Wound Care where students get to practice the skills of cleaning, suturing, and bandaging a wound.
My Project
The items will help students that are enrolled in a Health Pathway course experience hands-on learning in first and suturing. Students will use the ace bandages to learn how to wrap and secure sprained ankles or wrists and they will use the suture practice kits to try out different suturing techniques.
These materials will help the student get excited about learning different medical techniques in first aid and suturing.
I hope to spark a love for the medical field with the hands-on learning experiences that these materials will provide.
