Firing It Up in the Art Room

Help me give my students a kiln and the tools needed for using the kiln to fire fusible glass.

My Students

I teach wonderful students in a rural area. We are a highly impacted Title I school. My students face many challenges with the positive optimism of childhood.

I am an art teacher with a very modest budget.

I teach children of all ages from kindergarten to fifth graders. I teach at four schools working with over 3,000 students. I love that I get to share my greatest passion for art and learning with them. I see so many 21st century skills developed through visual art. Students get the opportunity to problem solve, make creative choices, and to see and understand the world around them more clearly.

My Project

I want my students to have experiences that will stay with them as they grow and mature. I want them to realize the positive effect of art in their lives. I want them to have amazing experiences with art. With the kiln, we can fire their glass projects and fuse their glass.

Working with glass is an amazing experience!

I want my students to be wowed by their own possibilities.

My students will use these glass supplies to create glass tiles with animals on them that they have researched. As we learn about the habitats and environments of the animals, they will create a tile with their animal and habitat out of glass on glass.
