Mrs. Coleman from Oakland CA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 5 Kindle Fires with table stands, 20 stylus pens, and 2 Chromebooks.

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn!" This quotation by Benjamin Franklin exhibits my desire to open up a world of possibility through science as well as math and other essential skills.
I teach a first and second grade multi-age classroom of thirty students in an urban district in a high-need community.
The low socioeconomic status of 85% of our school's students and the grim budget cuts have made the learning environment limited. The biggest obstacle for my students is the violence that they witness in their community outside of the school day. However, in our classroom, they are safe, interactive and eager to learn. Even though I teach General Education, many of my students have learning disabilities that often disrupt learning. These tablets will help to keep them actively engaged in such a huge classroom.
I am requesting five tablets and two chromebooks to provide visual, kinesthetic and auditory learning and scaffolding during science and math lessons. Tablets can bring math and science alive in the classroom. All of my students will be able to explore, inquire and discuss math and science. It would be wonderful if my students could have better access to learning with these tablets. Oftentimes the only place they have access to this type of technology is at school, and our computer lab is not working and very outdated. Students will be using applications that will truly engage them in math, science, keyboarding activities and basic computer skills. Technology is the future and my students deserve to be a part of it.
I see the bigger picture and the dream that technology is the future.
These tablets will help me meet the needs of my students. Your support will help my classroom in many ways. You will make it possible for my students to inquire about math and science, among other things, and open up the unlimited possibilities of learning. Please give them a chance!
