This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Young children are excited by firetrucks and firehouses. Our Kindergarten classes are studying firehouses this year. We will learn about fire safety, what training firefighters must complete, and tour fire stations.
I teach Kindergarten in an urban, high needs school.
Many of our students are entering school for the first time. we are building skills through an inquiry unit on firehouses. In addition to academic skills in areas such as math and science that can be gleaned from such a study, this will also enable our students to learn about fire safety and to develop social and emotional skills that will lead to future success.
My Project
I have requested firetrucks, fire hats, and Legos for each of the kindergarten classes in our building. These materials will enable our students to explore firehouses through dramatic play. Children learn best through play and social interaction. Being able to role play as a firefighter, use the firetrucks, or build a firehouse will really bring our unit of study to life for our students.
You generosity will enable our kindergarten class to have vital components to our firehouse study.
The students will be able to make connections from play to real life and experience meaningful learning.
