We are a group of inquisitive and active second graders. We love learning about EVERYTHING. We always want to know more. We are learning to be independent and take ownership of our own learning. Our room is always abuzz with engaged learning and excited students.
Our school is public charter school serving K-8th grades located in a suburban/rural area.
Students and families are very engaged and committed to the success of every child. Our resources and funds are limited, especially in the areas of computers and technology. We share mobile computers but upper grades get priority and state mandated assessments use every computer during testing periods. Having our own tablets would assure technology in the classroom at all times.
My Project
We have a very diverse group of students. There are 4 students with IEPs and three with 504 plans in addition to 3 ELL students in the classroom. Having these five tablets in the room will allow these students access to Internet-based programs that will help them reach their goals. Additionally there are students that struggle but do not qualify for services that would benefit from the resources on the tablets. The gifted and excelling students can use them for research, independent projects, and accelerated programs available on the Internet and through app stores. We are also requesting cases for the tablets to protect them and increase the life of the materials.
Having "personal" hand-held tablet devices enable students to work independently or in partners anywhere in the room.
Students will be able to access the programs that target skills specific to their unique needs. With five devices more students will be able to work at a time, and they can be used in small group instruction as well as independent practice. We use programs like iReady and Raz-Kids with proven track record of success. Websites like Kahn Academy challenge the accelerated learner too!
