My students have just begun to get excited about reading chapter books. They can't wait each week to see which book we are going to read. If we had Kindle Fires, they would have access to even more chapter books. This technology would open up a new world of reading for them.
Most of my students come from low income households.
They do not have access to books and other forms of literature. Having Kindles available to them in class would allow them to experience literature in a whole new way. They would be able to read books and magazines on topics that interest them. This exposure would lead them to a life long love of reading.
The 8 Kindles would be used during our reading groups. Each student will be given the opportunity to read on them for 20 minutes each day. They will be able to read fiction and non-fiction books. While at this station the students will also be given the opportunity to respond to what they have read. The students will be able to read books on a variety of reading levels, as well as practice a variety of reading skills.
The funding of this project will allow my students' access to a variety of reading materials and to see technology as a fun way to learn.
Your help will allow my students foster a love of reading.
