Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a low income school in Tampa, Florida. We do not qualify as a Title One school by a few percent. Our funding for resources and supplies for our students has decreased the last several years, and is unlikely to increase anytime soon.
My students are sweet, excited learners who are the face of our future!
They come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. They are of varied ability levels, with roughly half of them receiving special accommodations for ESE, ELL, or Section 504. It is difficult to keep their attention with a mundane curricular approach that doesn't motivate them to reach their full potential and persevere through rigorous activities.
My Project
My students are active learners that love to be challenged. We are a low income school, but not enough students qualify for free/reduced lunch for us to be eligible to receive additional Title-One funds. Therefore, we have all of the challenges but none of the monetary support of a Title-One school. We have 4 desktop computers that work, most of the time. However, with 24 students, it's hard to get them all involved with the technology.
With the Fire tablets, I'll be able to get my students FIRED up for Reading and Writing in the 21st Century.
We will be able to differentiate our lessons more fully, giving the students further access to technology that will have them engaged, excited, and FIRED UP for learning!
