We are a school district in rural Appalachia. As the art teacher, I see roughly 450 students each week. Many of my students receive free breakfast/lunch and see school as a retreat from their home lives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My students walk into the art room every day full of life and excited about art!
These kids need to express themselves... so why not do so while learning?
Our art classroom was recently gifted with a kiln and we are in need of a kiln hood and kiln supplies. My students love to work with clay. In the past, we have worked mostly with air-dry clay, which is crumbly and usually doesn't make it home. With the addition of a kiln, we will be able to create ceramic pieces that the students and their families can treasure for a lifetime.
My Project
For years, my students have only been able to work with air-dry clay. It was messy, didn't want to stick together and usually crumbled to pieces when it dried. My students spent a lot of time working on sculptures, only to have nothing to show at the end of a project.
My students love working with firing clay!
It's easy to use, durable and their projects (if handled correctly) can last for years.
Recently, we were gifted with an electric kiln for our classroom. We are in need of a kiln hood and kiln shelves to be able to fire our ceramic pieces. Please help my students make memories (and creations) that will last a lifetime!
