Technology is always changing and my amazing second-graders need to be able to experience and become familiar with it. Kindle Fires will provide each of my students with that opportunity!
I am the proud teacher of 21 exceptional second graders whose reading abilities vary greatly.
We live a small, suburban community that continues to try and keep up with the growth of its student population. Since our district continues to expand, funds can run out...and quickly. Plus, it is challenging to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology, especially in the primary classroom. My students LOVE technology and their faces light up any time they are presented with an opportunity to use it at school. They are always so excited to go to "Computer Lab" but unfortunately, due to our school growth, we only get to go once a week, on average. This is the only time that each student gets to individually have computer time. In a world where technology is constantly changing and considered a basic necessity for almost any job, I want to ensure my students have opportunities to experience different kinds of technology as well as meet their needs as young and growing readers!
My Project
Using technology is a huge motivator for students. The Kindle Fire is no exception. One book can be read by many students, at one time, on separate devices. The Kindle Fire can be used again and again in coming years! Students with low vocabulary can easily find the meaning of a word with the Kindle Fire dictionary. They can highlight sentences that are important in the text. Group comprehension is enhanced. Students can make notes to share in literature circle meetings. For special needs students, the Kindle Fire has text to speech, the ability to make the font larger, and will help struggling readers overall.
These three Kindle Fires will enrich my students' reading experience, enhance comprehension, and help struggling readers. I stress the importance of reading daily both at school and at home! These Kindle Fires will make reading even more exciting and engage those students who need motivation to pick up a book! Help me take my students to their next level of success!
