Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they blossom with imagination. I work in an inner-city school system with students whose eyes light up when they are learning computer science. I teach K-5 instructional technology and computer science in an inner-city school with a high poverty rate.
Do you remember when you were younger and you would tinker with everything?
You may have built something in your basement or taken apart something because you were curious about what it did. I want to give that opportunity to my students. All students should have the opportunity to be the next innovator. You never know who is going to create the next new piece of technology. It could be a 10-year-old kid.
My Project
We have an amazing Dash robot to use, but it is missing a device. We would love to get a Kindle Fire, case, and some extension pieces so we can use the Dash robot. The Dash robot will be used in all grade levels throughout the school. We will be integrating them throughout ELA, math, science, and social studies. In one class we are hoping to teach the students multiplication facts using the Dash. In another class, I am hoping to find a good engineering design process that I can do with the upper grades that will integrate computer science with the core content.
