Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I school, where 98% of my students qualify for free lunch. Most of my students don't have books at home, nor can they afford basic school supplies. Their only exposure to learning and reading is through our classroom and school resources. My goal is for them to get the right materials so that we can focus on active learning.
We are a Learning Community school, with a variety of students, some who have learning and emotional disabilities.
My students have limited life experiences. Most of them rarely leave our neighborhood, and I know how important it is for them to be exposed to diversity and different ways of thinking. These are kids with so much potential, but at the same time, they need positive venues for that energy. I witness, every day, how proud they are, when they complete class assignments or when they help a classmate. Still, we can do better, and I know that there is room to grow as learners and as members of our community.
My Project
Most of my students' interaction with technology is reduced to the use of smartphones. These tablets will enable my students to strengthen their learning skills by making them owners of their learning process. The use of tablets in all content areas will allow them to research topics and make a connection across disciplines because they will be able to keep all their work in an e-portfolio.
These tablets will be a path that will connect my students with the world, this technology will allow my students to reach resources that they don't even know that exist, like e-books, audio books, museum collections, virtual traveling, etc.
My students need to learn how to work collaboratively in an e-document and how to search, create, and modify multimedia presentations. They need to do these effortlessly and flawlessly.
